Southwest Flight 1380 Engine explosion

今週、火曜日午前 Southwest航空の1380便がDallasからのNew Yorkへの飛行中、離陸後20分頃、 Pennsylvania上空でNo 1（左エンジン）が爆発、破片で機体の窓ガラスをこわし、乗客1人が高度33000フィートの空中に吸い出されると言う事故がおきました。乗客は放り出される事なく機内に助け戻されましたが、後に死亡しました。

この時の機長は女性の機長でしたが、彼女は元FA18戦闘機乗りで、冷静に状況を判断、無事片エンジンで、最寄りのフィラデルフィア空港に着陸。その時の実況のATCが下記のサイトで公開されていますのでお聞き下さい。LiveATCのサイトです。

The CFM56 engine on Southwest flight 1380 blew apart over Pennsylvania on Tuesday, about 20 minutes after the Dallas-bound flight left New York’s LaGuardia Airport with 149 people on board.

The explosion sent shrapnel ripping into the fuselage of the Boeing 737-700 plane and shattered a window.


Southwest passengers tried to save woman as pilot showed 'nerves of steel'
Jennifer Riordan, 43, a bank executive, was killed when she was partially pulled through a gaping hole next to her seat in row 14 as the cabin suffered rapid decompression. Fellow passengers were able to pull her back inside but she died of her injuries later on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, National Transportation Safety Board chairman Robert Sumwalt told a news conference the incident began when one of the engine’s 24 fan blades snapped off from its hub. Sumwalt said investigators found the blade had suffered metal fatigue at the site of the break.

Sumwalt said he could not yet say if the incident, the first deadly airline accident in the US since 2009, pointed to a fleet-wide issue in the Boeing 737-700.

Bell’s V-280 Valor tiltrotor prototype is on track to tilt its nacelles all the way forward and fly in “airplane mode” by the end of April as it proceeds through its testing program, a company official says.

ベル社製V280 Valor（バロール）チルトローター プロトタイプ’機が、エンジンナセルを全機前進方向へ倒し、’航空機モード’で飛行する過程を完了、4月末までにテストプログラムを完了する予定であると、ベル社は公式に語った。
The prototype, which made its first flight in December, now has 19 hr. of flight time and run for 75 hr. on the ground, says Scott Clifton, director for Global Military Business Development for Bell.

昨年12月に初飛行をしたプロトタイプ機は、現在19時間の飛行記録と地上での75時間を行なったとベル社Global Military Business Development（世界軍用機事業部門）のディレクターScott Clifton氏は語る。

That includes one flight out of the test pattern and around the city of Amarillo, Texas, where Bell’s facility is based. It has flown up to 80 kt.

このフライトは、ベル社の基地工場があるテキサス州アマリリョ（Amarillo)の試験飛行パターン及び町近郊のフライトを含んでいる。80ノットの飛行速度であった。

California Aviation Hall Of Fame

Santa Monica Airport’s Museum of Flying last week announced that this year’s inductees into the California Aviation Hall of Fame are Angela Masson, Mike Melvill, Dick Rutan and Barry Schiff.

Santa Monica空港のMuseum of Flyingは先週、今年のMuseum of Flying、ミュージアム入りの氏名を発表した。Angela Masson, Mike Melville, Dick Rutun そしてBarry Schiff氏らである。

The California Aviation Hall of Fame is a subsidiary of the Museum of Flying. The award ceremony will be held at the museum on Saturday, May 5, 2018, with a reception beginning at 6:00 p.m. Dinner and the induction ceremony will follow. Previous inductees include Bob Hoover, Clay Lacy and astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

The California Aviation Hall of Fameは、Museum of Flyingの下部組織で授賞式は2018年5月5日土曜日ミュージアムで行われる。受付は午後6時から、その後ディナーと授賞式がとり行われる。前年の殿堂入りはBob Hoover, Clay Lacy 氏及び宇宙飛行士Buzz Aldrin氏である。
Inductee Angela Masson was American Airlines’ first female chief pilot. She began flying at age 15, but also managed time to nurture an entrepreneurial streak that netted her a number of patents, including one for the first electronic flight bag.

Angela Masson氏は、アメリカン航空の女性初のチーフパイロットである。彼女は15歳でフライトを始め、電子フライトバックを含む数々の特許を上げ新事業の流れを育んできた。
Dick Rutan is the world’s first and only pilot to fly an aircraft around the world nonstop. Along with copilot Jeana Yeager, Rutan piloted Voyager in 1986.

Dick Rutun氏は、世界初単独での無着陸飛行、世界一周を成し遂げたパイロットである。コパイロットのJeana Yeagerと共にRutunは1986年にVoyagerを飛ばした。

Rutan is also a highly decorated Air Force combat pilot holding a Silver Star, Purple Heart, Five Distinguished Flying Crosses and 16 Air Medals.

Rutun氏は又、空軍戦闘乗りで、でのシルバースター賞、パープルハート賞、五個の空軍フライングクロス及び16個の空軍メダルを獲得している。

Lufthansa and Air France flights grounded by strikes

Two of Europe's biggest airlines have been hit by strike action, grounding hundreds of flights and affecting tens of thousands of passengers.
