TOKYO, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Between China's 20th Communist Party Congress, that began Sunday, and the next one in 2027, Japan will undertake its biggest arms buildup since World War Two in a race to deter Beijing from war in East Asia, according to Japanese government officials and security analysts.

Japan identified China as its chief adversary in its 2019 defence white paper, worried that Beijing's flouting of international norms, pressure on Taiwan and rapid military modernisation posed a serious security threat. That anxiety has intensified since Russia invaded Ukraine, weakening Japanese public opposition to rearming, security experts say.

It’s an impressive show of hardware.

Ahead of its opening for media day on Monday, 2022 National Business Aviation Association’s Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) saw the arrival of a parade of jets and turboprops into the Orlando Executive Airport (KORL) over the weekend.

Among them? Also on display? The G280, G500, G600, and G650ER.

Russia’s actions during its brutal and continued siege of Ukraine cost it its seat as one of 36 members of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) governing council in Montreal, Canada, this week.

Central to Russia’s loss of support among other member states—and their votes needed to secure its position on the United Nations aviation council—was its aviation-related attacks on Ukraine, from targeting its airports to invading its airspace.

The bombing of Ukrainian airports during the ongoing war violated international aviation accord held in place since 1944, Yuliya Kovaliv, Ukraine’s ambassador to Canada, said, according to Reuters. “It is important that all the ICAO members addressed such a drastic breach of the Chicago Convention,” she said.

Lufthansa "bans AirTags in luggage" after passengers publicly shame it with location of lost bags

Lufthansa航空がAppleの荷物へのAirtagsの装着を禁止したと言う記事からです。

Apple's AirTags are an excellent way to know where your luggage is—and a snitch on airlines who don't know where your luggage is. Lufthansa is the first to ban them after "an awful summer of lost bags", reports Ben Schlappig. The carrier cites the industry's undead policies against electronic devices on flights.

Lufthansa argues that baggage trackers fall in the category of portable electronic devices, and are therefore subject to dangerous goods regulations issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This is specifically because of the transmission function. Lufthansa claims that the transmission function needs to be turned off during flight when in checked luggage, just as is required for cell phones, laptops, etc. My first thought is that I'm not surprised to see Lufthansa be the first airline to add a ban like this. Lufthansa isn't exactly a customer-friendly airline, and the airline has had an awful summer when it comes to lost bags (I even had a delayed Lufthansa bag experience). AirTags empower travelers in terms of knowing exactly where their bags are, and I imagine that's something some airlines don't actually like. If you look at Twitter, you'll see a ton of people expressing frustration with Lufthansa because they know exactly where their checked bag is, while the airline refuses to help.
Embedded below is the real problem, for airlines: passengers publicly exposing the stock deceptions and delaying tactics used on the ground by staff, and gathering hard data on baggage handling failures.

A recent demonstration by alternative launch provider SpinLaunch suggests payloads containing sensitive equipment can endure the tremendous G-forces generated by the company’s suborbital accelerator.

More than 150 partners, government officials, and industry enthusiasts gathered at Spaceport America in the Jornada del Muerto desert of New Mexico to watch the latest testof SpinLaunch’s A-33 Suborbital Accelerator on September 27. The company has now performed 10 tests of its mass accelerator in less than a year.

A rapidly rotating arm inside the 108-foot-wide (33-meter) facility hurled a projectile, or Test Launch Vehicle, to heights reaching 25,000 feet (7,600 meters), in a demonstration consistent with the company’s previous tests. For reference, passenger airplanes cruise at around 36,000 feet (11,000 meters), and SpinLaunch eventually hopes to send payloads as high as 200,000 feet (60,000 meters).

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — For the first time in 20 years, a Russian cosmonaut rocketed from the U.S. on Wednesday, launching to the International Space Station alongside NASA and Japanese astronauts despite tensions over the war in Ukraine.

Their SpaceX flight was delayed by Hurricane Ian, which ripped across the state last week.

"I hope with this launch we will brighten up the skies over Florida a little bit for everyone," said the Japan Space Agency's Koichi Wakata, who is making his fifth spaceflight.

Joining him on a five-month mission are three new to space: Marine Col. Nicole Mann, the first Native American woman bound for orbit; Navy Capt. Josh Cassada and Russia's lone female cosmonaut, Anna Kikina.
