The U.S. Air Force’s ongoing testing of its new XQ-58A Valkyrie drone took an unexpected turn when it recently launched its own small reconnaissance drone, which can double as a kamikaze.

➡ You love badass military tech. So do we.

Let’s nerd out over this stuff together.
The test shows the Pentagon is thinking creatively about how to use drones, not only as flying arsenals and sentries, but as drone launchers, too.

On its sixth flight, which took place on March 26 at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, the Valkyrie released an ALTIUS-600 small, unmanned aircraft system (SUAS) from its internal weapons bay. In addition to launching the baby drone, the Valkyrie also flew higher and faster than ever before, according to the Air Force Research Lab.

NASA Awards Contract to Launch Initial Elements for Lunar Outpost

Enjoy !

NASA has selected Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) of Hawthorne, California, to provide launch services for the agency’s Power and Propulsion Element (PPE) and Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO), the foundational elements of the Gateway. As the first long-term orbiting outpost around the Moon, the Gateway is critical to supporting sustainable astronauts missions under the agency’s Artemis program.

After integration on Earth, the PPE and HALO are targeted to launch together no earlier than May 2024 on a Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The total cost to NASA is approximately $331.8 million, including the launch service and other mission-related costs.

SpaceX is set to make a change to its Crew Dragon spacecraft for its forthcoming history-making all-civilian launch, currently set for September 15. That Dragon will replace its International Space Station docking mechanism with a transparent dome, through which passengers will be able to take in an awe-inspiring panorama of space and the Earth from an orbital perspective.

The glass dome will be at the “nose” of the Dragon capsule, or its topmost point when it’s loaded upright on top of a Falcon 9 rocket readying for launch. There should be space for one passenger to use it at a time, and it’ll be opened up once the spacecraft is safely out of Earth’s atmosphere, exposed by a protective cover that can be flipped back down to protect the observation deck when the spacecraft re-enters on its return trip.

Boeing Plans To Deliver Most Of 737 MAX Backlog By 2023

Boeing’s 737 MAX program recovery is hitting its marks as airlines work more of the narrowbody twins back into fleets and deliveries ramp up.

Deliveries of the 737 MAX resumed Dec. 8, 2020 after a 22-month hiatus linked to the model’s global grounding. Now that regulators are approving the model’s return, Boeing’s plan is to deliver most of the stored backlog by 2023.

However, airframe-level utilization shows that while usage is ramping up, pandemic-related travel restrictions and reduced demand are lowering average flight-segment times as well as total activity levels.

Eight Japanese companies are now working to design the nation’s F-X fighter: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI), Subaru, IHI, Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba, Fujitsu and NEC

KHI and NEC have formally joined the F-X design team at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries plant near Nagoya in central Japan, according to reports by the Nikkei and Mainichi newspapers.

KHI and Subaru work on the airframe; IHI on the engine; Mitsubishi Electric on the mission system; and Toshiba, Fujitsu and NEC on avionics, including the radar. MHI is responsible for overall integration as the single prime contractor. The number of engineers at the moment is about 200 and will peak at about 500, according to reports by Mainichi and Nikkei.

In new research, scientists speculate that Earth was formed by a Mars-sized rogue planet known as Theia—with identifiable bits of the alien planet still found in Earth’s interior.

Scientists believe the same fateful impact also formed the moon, but this is the first time they’ve studied the specific traces of the clash that remain behind in the Earth’s mantle.

In 2016, UCLA researchers proposed that Earth could actually be two planets that fused together after colliding: itself and Theia. At the time, scientists said they believe the two planetary masses mixed together uniformly. Now, Qian Yuan of Arizona State University and his colleagues suggest the mysterious dense spots in Earth’s interior are the specific pieces of Theia that are still intact.
