AUSTIN, Texas – An American Airlines employee died Thursday due to traumatic injuries at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, according to airport and EMS spokespeople.

ABIA spokesperson Bailey Grimmett told the American-Statesman, part of the USA TODAY Network, that Austin-Travis County EMS was dispatched to the airport after 2 p.m. local time for someone with injuries on the tarmac near Gate 24. Grimmett said medics later pronounced the person dead at the scene.

Austin-Travis County EMS said the person died of "traumatic injuries" but had no further details.
