Archer Aviation’s production electric air taxi, called the Midnight, is being designed to fly 45 back-to-back 20-mi. missions a day with a pilot and four passengers and a 10-min. recharge between flights, at prices comparable to ground ride-sharing, the startup has revealed.

Archer has completed the preliminary design review (PDR), freezing key aspects of the design, and the Midnight has an “industry-leading” 1,000-lb. payload with “several hundred lb.” of margin for weight growth during certification, CEO and co-founder Adam Goldstein told analysts on Aug. 10.

A teaser image of the Midnight in Archer’s second-quarter letter to shareholders shows an aircraft larger than the company’s Maker technology demonstrator, with the same 12-tilt-6 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) configuration and a longer wing, cranked in profile with drooped tips.
