Chinese Drone 184

 

 商用ドローンの世界に先駆けて中国のEhang184 が、乗客を乗せたテストフライトのビデオを公開CNNが報じています。

Chinese drone maker Ehang wowed visitors at CES 2016 when it brought along a prototype of its passenger drone; however, it didn’t have much else to show at the time. Now, it’s released footage of the 184 in flight with a passenger for the first time, with the company’s CEO on board.

中国のドローンの製造メーカーEhang社が、CES2016で乗客用ドローンののプロトタイプで来訪者をうならせましたが、その時は余りみせるものはありませんでした。今年に入って、最初の乗客、Ehang社のCEO（執行最高責任者）を乗せた、184の飛行を見せました。

 

Following ‘1000 tests’, Ehang took to YouTube to show off the drone in action with CEO Huazhi Hu, as well as other senior management, and deputy mayor of the Chinese city of Guangzhou, where the trials took place.

千回のテストを経て、Ehang社は、CEO Huazhi   Hu氏を乗せたドローンの公開をYouTubeに投稿、同様に他の先任運行管理者や試乗が行われた中国Guangzhou市の副知事なども試乗。

Besides talking up the 184’s ease of use, Hu also highlighted the drone’s ability to fly safely and precisely, thanks to an advanced onboard operating system.

184の扱いやすさの他に、Hu氏は、機上の最先端運行システムのおかげで、飛行の安全性や正確性を強調しました。

The 184 is designed for short flights – think quick commutes within a city. It can be piloted using simple controls or by simply choosing a destination to be flown to and dropped off automatically.

184は、短距離の飛行用に設計されていますが、街と街との素早い移動を狙っています。簡単なコントロール（操縦）で飛行でき、もしくは飛行先の目的地を選びそこへ自動で飛行、降下できます。

While it’s interesting to see just how far Ehang has come with its drone tech, it still has to work out ways of getting through all the regulations and requirements from transport authorities and local governments before its vehicles can take flight.

Ehangにドローンの技術の進歩を見せられますが、他方、実際の飛行機が飛行する前には、運行当局やその地方の政府筋の法規や遵守事項などやらなければならないことがあります。

The Emirati city of Dubai announced plans to fly people across town in Ehang’s drones by last July, so there’s certainly some enthusiasm there.

ドバイのEmirati市が昨年7月までに、Ehangのドローンのを使って乗客を運ぶ計画を発表しました、そこには一種の熱狂さも感じます。

A320neo To Military

Airbus could begin competing head-to-head with the Boeing 737 in the large commercial derivatives market, offering the A320neo for roles such as armed maritime patrol and airborne early warning.

エアバス社は、武装海上偵察機や早期空中警戒機の役割を持つA320neoの提供をもって、大型商用機の派生系としてボーイング737に真っ向から対抗できる機種の導入を始めた。

The company announced at the Singapore Air Show on Feb. 7 that the A320neo (new engine option) is being considered for the global military aircraft market as much larger alternative to a C295 special mission derivative.

2月7日のシンガポールエアショウで、A320neo（新型エンジンのオプション）が、C295の特殊任務の派生系で、大型の代替機として、世界の軍用機市場に参入できると考えていると公表した。

The company hopes to leverage its A330 multi-mission tanker experience to deliver customized military versions of the A320neo, the company’s massively popular single-aisle airliner.

エアバス社は、A330多目的タンカーの供給経験を、当社の多いな人気の単通路型エアライナーであるA320neoのカスタマイズ軍用バージョンとして供給するテコ入れを期待している。

The A320neo is powered by highly efficient engines, either the Pratt & Whitney PW1127G-JM or CFM International LEAP-1A26.

Taiwan Earthquake M6.4

今日の英語の習慣化はTaiwanを襲った地震の速報です。

A series of earthquakes is rocking Taiwan, leaving at least four people dead and more than 100 injured, according to The Associated Press, which cites Taiwan's premier, William Lai.

一連の地震が台湾を揺るがした、AP通信社によると、少なくとも四人の死者と100名以上の負傷者を出したと台湾の首相、ウィリアム レイ氏が述べている。

The shaking started late Tuesday night local time, toppling buildings, destroying one bridge and buckling paved streets along the island's eastern coast. The quakes continue to jolt the area near Hualien County through early Wednesday morning.

地震は、台湾時間火曜の夜遅く始まり、建物を揺るがし、橋を崩壊させ、台湾の東海岸の舗装道路を捻じ曲げた。地震は、水曜日早朝まで続き、Hualien郡周辺まで及んだ。

Four buildings have collapsed and one bridge has been damaged, Taiwan's National Fire Agency told ABC News.

The largest quake so far was reported at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday night local time, registered at magnitude 6.4 by the United States Geological Survey.

Killer Whale

(CNN)-From the water, a high-pitched squeak calls out "hello" but the sound is not coming from a human, it's a whale.

CNNニュースから ー 海からの高いピッチで”キュキュとHello”と呼びかけているのは、人間ではなく、いるかであった。

A team of international researchers have taught a female orca whale to imitate human speech, documenting what is considered to be a world first in a paper published Wednesday.

国際調査チームは、人間のスピーチを真似させる事をメスのシャチに教えて、水曜日に発刊された新聞で、世界で最初になるであろうドキュメントを発表した。

★orca whale : シャチ または Killer WhaleWhaleとも表記される

★what is considered : what is called などと同じ（）付きで考えればよく…いわゆるとか、思われるとかの補足的な語句である。
Using Wikie the whale, who lives at the Marineland Aquarium in southern France as their test subject, scientists discovered a whale could learn new vocalizations by imitating its trainer.

テスト課題として、南フランス、海洋水族館（Marineland Aquarium:大文字ですから固有名詞としてこのまま訳しても良い)で飼われている、シャチにWikieを使って、科学者達は、シャチはトレイナーを真似て新しい言葉を学ぶことができるという事を発見した。
Wikie was able to repeat a handful of words including "hello," "bye bye," "one, two" and "Amy."

Wikieは、"hello," "bye bye," "one, two" and "Amy."など、数々の単語を繰り返すことができる。

"We found that the subject made recognizable copies of all familiar and novel conspecific and human sounds tested and did so relatively quickly (most during the first 10 trials and three in the first attempt)," the experts revealed in their paper.

Most mammals use the larynx to produce sound and as humans we are able to speak in part because of the motor ability we possess.

多くの哺乳類は、咽頭を使って声を出し、人間は、我々自身が持っている運動能力で話すことができる。

The same can not be said for toothed cetaceans (think whales and dolphins) as they produce sounds in their nasal passages, thus making Wikie's audible performance even more remarkable.

歯を持ったクジラ目（シャチやイルカなどの）はできず、彼らは、鼻腔で音を出すと考えられていたが、Wikieの音声運用を真似るとは驚きである。

US Navy Drone Ship “Sea Hunter”

A prototype autonomous ship known as the Medium Displacement Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MDUSV) has officially been transferred to the U.S. Navy from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) after a two-year testing and evaluation program. Named “Sea Hunter,” the Office of Naval Research will continue to develop the vessel from this point forward.

として知られていたシーハンター、プロトタイプの自律航法機能を持つ艦船が、正式にDARPA（米国防高等研究計画局）から2年のテストと評価プログラムを経て、米海軍に引き継がれました。”シーハンター“と名付けられたこの艦船は、この時点から海軍研究所の引き続きの開発が進められます。

 

Although there’s no specific timetable for when the Sea Hunter would join active naval operations, the statement from DARPA indicated that it could happen as early as this year.

シーハンターが、実際の運用開始がいつなのかの特別なタイムテーブルはありませんが、DARPAの発表からは、ことしの早い時期に運用開始となる可能性があるとの言及です。

The anti-submarine warfare vessel could be the first of an entirely new class of warship.

対潜水艦装備のこの艦船は、戦艦の全く新しいクラスの最初のものとなるでしょう。

Russian Airbus 320 Fire

At 5PM on 31st January (Russia time), a fire started on board an Aeroflot Airbus A320 (VQ-BPU). The fire started on Flight #SU1182, a service from Moscow to Volgograd. A passenger's powerbank emitted heat, sparks and flames after landing. Cabin filled with haze. No evacuation

(ロシア時間)1月31日午後5時、Aeroflot(アエロフロート)航空エアバスA320型機(VQ-BPU)機上で火災が発生した。

火災発生は、フライト1182便、モスクワからヴォルゴグラート行きであった。

乗客1人のモバイルバッテリーが過剰発熱し、スパーク、着陸後火を噴いたとの事。客室は煙で視界不良になったが、緊急避難はなかった。

 

Haze:航空用語でも、天候の状態を表すのに使われる。ヘイズといい、煙、塵などの細かい粒子で空中がボーッとして視界不良であることの気象用語の一種。日本で言うスモッグや近頃の中国からの黄砂みたいなものである。
